A new place to write

I've been meaning to start writing for a long time.

Not a newsletter. Not a thread. Just a place to put things down properly — the things I've learned building digital products for the past 25 years, the decisions that turned out to be right and the ones that didn't, the way design thinking has changed and the parts that haven't changed at all.

I've worked at places like TripAdvisor and America's Test Kitchen, led teams, shipped products used by hundreds of millions of people, and then stepped back and built my own studio. Along the way I've picked up a lot of things worth writing about.

I don't know exactly what this will become. Some of it will be about design craft — how I think about UX, what I've learned about leading design teams, how the tools have changed but the fundamentals haven't. Some of it will be about building things as a founder — Ubezon, Althingi.ai, what it's actually like to ship a product when there's no team to hand off to.

Some of it will probably be in Icelandic. I grew up in Húsavík, studied design in Florence, and have spent the last fifteen years split between Reykjavík and Boston. There are things worth saying in both languages.

This is the start of that. I'm glad you found it.
